Food Standards Scotland advises that a hard-boiled egg can be kept in the fridge for up to two days, with or without its shell.

Food Standards Scotland advises that a hard-boiled egg can be kept in the fridge for up to two days, with or without its shell.

Why not use the US duration?

The UK source gives a two-day household recommendation. The American Cold Food Storage Chart has a different reference period; this page deliberately uses the regional UK advice.

Cool and refrigerate promptly

Use the time when the egg was cooked as the reference. Keep it refrigerated and do not assume a cracked, contaminated or poorly handled egg is safe until the calculated limit.

Raw eggs are a different condition

UK guidance for raw shell eggs centres on their best-before date and appropriate storage. The hard-boiled timer must not be applied to raw eggs.

Hard-boiled eggs — up to two days

Enter when the eggs were cooked. The Food Standards Scotland recommendation is up to two days under proper refrigeration.

Confirm the conditions and calculate the UK guidance window.

This is a maximum guidance period, not a use-by date or food safety certificate. If storage history is uncertain, do not rely on the calculated time.
